Usher Guild
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. Matthew 25:35
He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me." Mark 9:36-38
Often, the first person someone meets entering the Church is a greeter and usher. The importance of that first impression cannot be understated; it represents God's welcome to his church, it comforts those that are uncertain and welcomes those that have come again into the fellowship of the congregation. The role of the usher is much more than providing a seat and an Order of Worship, it begins the relationship between individuals and the congregation and the Church. Ushers create the tone of worship and extend the welcome and greeting of Christ as worshipers enter into the sanctuary. It is a high privilege and responsibility to create an environment where worshipers can concentrate on worship and not be concerned about what to do and where to go. The role of the Usher is to enable the worship service, respond to needs of worshipers and greet those that visit and are strangers in our midst.
Ushering is a wonderful way to become involved in the life of the Church and provide an important ministry without having to be a long-time member or trained liturgical leader. With only minimal time commitment you can participate in the ministry to visitors, greet friends and serve in worship. Fellowship among crew members who are committed to serving the Lord is a reason many have been in this ministry for more than a decade.
Our mission is to make Christ the King in our lives and in the lives of others a s we carry out our responsibilities of collecting the offering, guiding parishioners to the communion stations, greeting parishioners as they enter the sanctuary and ensuring the comfort and safety of those who attend the Falls Church. Generally ushers are organized in crews that serve every third month at one of the five weekend worship services. The Ushers Guild is looking for prospective ushers to fill vacancies in several usher crews. We provide training and all information you may need to participate in this ministry, although a cheerful attitude and welcoming nature are all that is needed.
Keep on loving each other as brothers. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. Heb 13:1-2
