Marriage
Dear Friends,
There is something full of wonder in marital faithfulness and love – "too wonderful for me to understand," says the Proverb when reflecting on the way of a man and his wife. Paul the Apostle says that there is "great mystery" in Christian marriage – a truth that few come to understand. There is a secret about it that God has revealed.
"A man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two become one flesh. This is a great mystery." Ephesians 5:25-32
Love, sacrifice, and faithfulness in marriage are an illustration of Christ’s love for his church. Yes, God created marriage so that children could be conceived and raised up. Yes, he instituted marriage to provide sexual pleasure and intimacy. Yes, God gave us marriage and the family as the most basic framework and structure for society and civilization. But along with these things, and this is the mystery, God says that marriage is to reflect Christ’s love to an alienated world, to be a display in a world of the beauty, good news and greatness of God.
