Date: September 10 - October 8, Wednesdays Time: 7pm - 8:15pm Location: The Back 40 (3rd Floor 6565 Arlington Blvd) Contact: Rev. Dr. John Frederick
In this five-week class, Rev. Dr. John Frederick (Pastor of Discipleship) will lead us through a study of 1 Thessalonians. This letter is widely regarded as one of Paul’s earliest writings. In it we find key teachings on the topics of prayer, the pursuit of holiness, the word of God, the return of Christ, and so much more. This class will be a Bible study . . . that is more than a Bible study.
We’ll engage with the works of luminaries like John Stott, Ligon Duncan, Leon Morris, N.T. Wright, and J.C. Ryle to discover not only what 1 Thessalonians teaches but how to develop our own skills as faithful readers, interpreters, and communicators of God’s Word. We’ll use John Stott’s book The Message of 1 & 2 Thessalonians (available here and here) as a baseline companion text for the class.
Prior reading or study is not required, and all are invited to attend and participate. Classes will be recorded, so if you miss one, no worries!
