Fall 2018 Classes

God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - is inviting us into an adventure to know, love, obey, enjoy, and glorify him forever. An adventure to be part of his eternal, redemptive work in our lives and the lives of others. An adventure that appoints us as ambassadors for Christ. An adventure whose mission is to love God, to love our neighbors, and to go make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to observe all he commanded us (Matthew 28:19-20).  An adventure that accomplishes his purposes for his glory.

One of the many ways we accomplish this is by providing sound, Biblical teaching to educate, equip, and inspire us to grow as disciples of Jesus.  I am excited to add to our Sunday morning curriculum a series on the foundations of the faith.  We are offering classes to address these essential questions and more: “How do we begin with Christ? What do we believe about Christ?  How do we belong to Christ? How do we behave like Christ?  And how do we fulfill his purpose in his great adventure?” Foundational classes will include topics like Anglican essentials, the Beatitudes, the Book of Common Prayer, the creeds, cultural diversity, hospitality, personal devotion, prayer, sharing the good news of Jesus, spiritual disciplines, and more.

The Sunday morning classes will be offered in the Learning Center at 9 and 10:30 a.m. during the fall, winter, and spring trimesters. Each class will be approximately 60-90 minutes long and last 6 to 10 weeks. Every trimester, we will provide an updated list of class offerings.

In addition to the 101-301 Sunday morning classes, we are also offering a targeted needs series. There is additional information provided inside.

I pray each of us and all of us continue to grow “until we all attain... the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,” Ephesians 4:13.

- Steve Cannizzaro, Director of Discipleship and Outreach

Christian oriented workshop for adults suffering from current or chronic depression or anyone with a history of recurrent depression. In a Christ-centered setting learn effective skills to battle depression & keep it from returning.

People with current, recurrent or chronic depression. While this is effective for severe first-time cases of major depression, it is especially valuable for the treatment of chronic or recurrent depression – the really hard cases to treat. It is for those who have tried everything and have given up hope because nothing makes them feel better for long. It is tailored for Christians at any stage of development – from searchers to the truly devout. It is also a resource for recovery for those who have lost faith and hope because of their repeated bouts with depression.

The format of each session is a small group which supports each other spiritually and emotionally. It includes: opening prayer, brief Bible study, teaching and exercises, sharing, and praying for each other. It combines Christian principles and teachings with effective clinical psychology methods. And, it includes the essential element of developing plans and exercises to prevent relapse (very common among those who have had one or more episodes of major depression); this is rarely discussed in the psychology literature or during standard therapy.

  • “I have always been chronically depressed w/ occasional drops into major depression. My mood is now the best it has ever been & I know how to fight against sliding down again.”
  • “As a mental health professional and a Christian, I find this workbook to be outstanding. It is the only book that blends Christianity with cognitive behavioral methods.”
  • “When I came to this workshop I was headed in a downward spiral into a deep depression. This workshop has lifted me up and given me strength to fight depression.”
  • “This was a truly outstanding class which I would recommend highly to anyone who can use it. The course materials are excellent, user friendly, clearly written, and very comprehensive without being too long. They consist of a collection of Bible verses that were really on target for our needs and a brief but thorough overview of scientifically validated psychological techniques that class members do in the privacy of their own homes as homework. The class itself was upbeat, encouraging and even lots of fun. We were free to keep anything private and not discuss it if we wanted. The atmosphere was warm, encouraging and supportive.”
  • “This workshop was absolutely fantastic!”
  • “My wife says that she has seen a big change in me over the past several weeks.”
  • “I’ve been doing well and haven’t needed to refer to my suicide prevention plan, but am glad to know it’s there in case it’s needed.”
  • “I recommend this course to everyone who struggles with depression. It provides Christian compassion and Bible verses so you know where you can turn in dark times, fellowship so you know you’re not alone, and practical tips on what to do if... I give it a 10 out of 10! Best wishes for future classes!”
  • “ 🙂 Thank you for your groups. They helped me get through a difficult time and I will pass on my knowledge gained to others.”
  • “I’m doing better every day. Blessings, my friend.”
